[Updated] Political Nonsense is Destroying South Carolina Education

What can we do about it?

The way I see it, you're probably freest from the ages one to four

Around the age of five you're shipped away for your body to be stored

They promise education, but really they give you tests and scores

And they predictin' prison population by who scoring the lowest*

*Although I appreciate the powerful point made here about the school-to-prison pipeline, I think the idea that test scores are literally used to plan prisons is an urban legend.

Updated: I naively thought the legislature had hit bottom when I wrote the original post. But the South Carolina Senate got very little passed this session before the deadline, so instead they passed a bunch more, even more dangerous and crazy nonsense during the budget debate last night, April 26, 2022.
